What is the NIFC situation report (IMSR)?
The Incident Management Situation Report: the official national daily record of large-fire activity, published from NIFC each morning during fire season.
Every morning in season, the National Interagency Fire Center publishes the situation report: national preparedness level, fire activity by geographic area, large fires with acres and personnel, and team assignments in narrative form.
It is the record everyone eventually reads, and it is honest about being a record: it describes what has already been processed. Team assignments often appear there days after the orders behind them went out, and Type 3 teams never appear at all.
For contractors
Read it, but know what it is: confirmation, not warning. If the first time you hear about a team is the situation report, the contractors who track the roster heard it days ago, and the early orders are spoken for.
